You know what – I may be a pretty decent DJ (so I am I tell ya) and have a pretty decent mobile disco set-up (indeed I do), but, as for running my business I’m a bit of a clutz (probably spelled that wrong - I think).
Here's a proper goof; last week I realised my PAT test certificate had expire before a big gig that needed to see it – oops wha wha oops. Not a big deal though. Electrical bloke popped round, tested my kit and bingo – new certificate in my hands.
However folks – my biggest problem was a bit harder to correct. Last year I opted for a name change (better than a sex change but I bet that would’ve got me more bookings)… Not such a big deal you might think – neither did I – until I watched my phone go into a coma.
The name change included my business name and that included a new domain and web site. Little did I know what an impact that would have. You see, I had some pretty decent rankings for regional search phrases for anyone needing a bit of entertainment so I was always answering the phone to hear “hi, I found you on Google and am looking at your website…” as the opener to the conversation – right before “how much is yer disco mate?” - to all DJs out there, I hate that sound too...
My Website Was Dead! Dead I Tell Ya! - Well, it was in a coma at least.
Okay so not quite dead – I exaggerated (or had you noticed). I found myself checking my phone a few times a day to see if it still worked. Yep. It sure did.. Do you know how sad it is when you call yourself up from one phone to another? “No, don’t answer it, it’s just me!”
Howeverrrrrrrr...
I got my website reviewed and bang! The light came on! I got a frank talking to (well, via a few PDF files and a bit of audio narrative – a sort of frank talking to). I could see straight away what I’d done. My ‘new’ website (or at least that’s the way Google saw it since I got a new domain), was non-existent because I had done loads of things wrong.
Surprisingly, there was hardly any techie babble in the whole thing I think. The review was so understandable and set me back on track.
Website Reviews do help – it helped me out of the doo doo!
So many details were pointed out to me in terminology (which is a whopping big word for me) that I could totally understand.
What it advised me to do I could do, and did do in a few hours a week. Over the next month or so my phone came out of it’s coma and my diary had the dust blown off of it.
Now – I can honestly say “sorry, not taking any more bookings this year” because my diary is full, and I can put that down to the sensible and understandable website help I got from Koss UK in their website review. Cheers guys.
So, if you have a website that can;t attract people to it or if it gets people to it and doesn’t get your phone jingling off the wall… Guess what I’d recommend you do with the next 80 quid you spend on your business…?
